Ever by Patricia Jacaban Miranda

when women want a man
to always run the country
when women want the law
to say what to do
with their bodies when
women want women
to be just
            persons with vaginas
when women want guns
at their sides to match
the fear in their guts
then
         this woman is saying
                                    sisters
this world’s so full of want
already and yours can’t be
the only kind
in this wishing to have
more and all and better
our mothers used to say
                                       girl
be careful what you want
so what i’m saying is
my want wasn’t sleeping

not then not now
                    not
