Movement

I felt the fluttering
Pulse beneath my skin in a tom-tom beat
Moving through fluid in a sliding swish
Inside, I was not alone

And through the long days and endless dark nights
The bumping, swimming, grasping for freedom
Continued in my body unabated
Waiting to break free, to gain a place outside

With a gush of water she slid from her hiding place
Splashing the air with her moist entry
And she greeted the world with a piercing cry
Inside, I was now alone
