The Girl at the Typewriter

It's 5 on the nose
And Jackie boy's around the corner
Pop gave me a crisp five and
Told me not to be home too late

I yank the plug on my Royal Portable
And hoof it over to 5th and main
It's Jazz night

Every night should be

Scott's playing, crisp and loud in the front
And Jackie's cheek is flat to mine
My feet are already itching
And I wanna roll down my socks
For a turn on the floor

Let's make it, you and me,
I tell him
We're up and swinging
Jitterbugging the charleston and
Blacking our bottoms

Until the whole place was
Arms and legs and pearls and elbows
